Use one secret word per round. Everyone except the imposter sees that word; the imposter has to work it out from the clues. These lists are ideas for your own games, not a catalogue of the words included in Spiono.

Easy and Hard Imposter Words
Difficulty depends on the players. A familiar object gives everyone several ways to contribute; an abstract idea asks the group to explain a less literal connection.
| Start with | Try next |
|---|---|
| Umbrella, popcorn, penguin | Airport, campsite, karaoke |
| Beach, pancakes, hamster | Group chat, plot twist, Wi-Fi password |
| Birthday, laundry, skateboard | Luck, gravity, nostalgia |
The right-hand column is not automatically better. If someone does not know a word, replace it. For a playful theme, use the separate funny word list.
Word and Clue Examples
A useful clue has a connection you can explain, without naming the answer. These are possible associations, not answers to memorise: the same clue becomes more revealing after other players have spoken.
| Secret word | Possible clue and connection |
|---|---|
| Umbrella | “Forecast” — a reason to take it with you. |
| Museum | “Quiet” — how people often behave inside. |
| Karaoke | “Courage” — what someone might need before their turn. |
| Traffic jam | “Late” — a possible consequence. |
For umbrella, “weather” may fit too many things, while “rain” can give away more than you intend. Listen to the earlier clues before deciding how specific to be. Our clue examples compare broad, useful and revealing answers in more detail.
What Makes a Good Imposter Game Word?
- Everyone recognises it. An unfamiliar term can make a player who knows the word look suspicious.
- It supports different associations. Think about its use, location, appearance or a shared experience.
- The group agrees what it means. For an international group, clarify whether “football” means association football or American football before choosing that theme.
How to Use the List Without Spoiling the Round
Keep the chosen word hidden from the imposter. For a paper game, a non-playing host can write the same word on all but one slip and “Imposter” on the remaining slip, then fold and shuffle them. The host already knows the answer, so should not join that round as a player.
Some games give the imposter a related but different word. That is a different setup: these single-word lists are for the version where the imposter receives no word. See the rules and example round before mixing variants.
Use Categories or Make Your Own Pack
Spiono handles the private roles on one iPhone, so everyone in the group can play. Choose categories or make a custom pack with words your friends know. After installation, you can play offline. Downloading is free; some modes and categories are available through optional Premium.
For your own pack, start with one theme and try a few words with different clue styles. Keep the ones that give the group something to discuss. The custom word pack guide includes a worked example.
